Rowley's Red Barn in Santaquin

(Santaquin) You know how some places just feel like Utah? The kind of spot where you walk in and instantly get that mix of nostalgia, small-town charm, and friendly people who say hello to you as you walk in? That's how I feel every time I visit Rowley's Red Barn.

Lots of great treats in here

I was in the Santaquin area for work and when I knew I would be driving by the "red barn," I texted Kylie to see if she wanted anything. From experience, I know the fastest way to get her to respond to a message is to ask about a snack from one of her favorite places :) Before I even hit send (kind of), she immediately texted me back asking me to get her some of the Rowley's honey roasted peanut butter. I'm sure you've had Jif or Skippy before, but this peanut butter... wow. It's so good it almost feels wrong.

The honey roasted peanut butter is so good

Of course, if Kylie gets her favorite treat, that justifies a cheat day for me. Right? So I grabbed one of their apple slushies. It's kind of like one of those Hawaiian-style icy treats that you get in cherry or grape or whatever flavor you want. But this apple slushy is the best if you like anything apple. It tastes like the apple was squeezed right before they filled the the cup. I’ve had a lot of slushies in my life, but this one… I wish I could hand you a cup through the screen. Cold, crisp, sweet, and as good as it gets.

You will crave the apple slushies after you try one

The barn is packed with all sorts of food and treats and snacks. It's one of those old-fashioned places where nearly everything is produced locally. In a way, it's like a farmer's market in here. The ambiance is perfect for a place like this.

In the back area, you'll find freezers full of local meat, like steaks and burgers. You can also get homemade pies in this part of the store. The selection is always changing, so take a few minutes to see what they have. I bet you'll like something.

Just past the freezer area, you walk through a door and the temperature instantly drops. This large room is refrigerated to keep these items in here cool. In one corner of this room is a great collection of old-timey soda pop. I'm not talking cans or plastic bottles, but glass bottles just like it was back in the day. There are all sorts of flavors to try, especially a great selection of root beer.

There are also gallons and gallons of some of the best apple cider you can try, as well as cheese, bags of apples, and Kylie's beloved peanut butter. I have tried almost everything here and it is delicious. Plus, you know you're helping support local farmers and producers, so it feels good to buy even more. Depending on the season, you’ll find peaches, apples, pies, cider, and different breads in here.

Of course, don't forget the snacks. Back in the main part of the barn, you'll find apple cider donuts, ice cream, popcorn, more donuts, candy, and all the sugar joy you can handle. I think if you're ever having a bad day, one visit to the red barn will cheer you up. Or at least leave you in a sugar rush you'll never forget. Worth it.

There are also souvenirs and a kids section. I mean, if you're grabbing donuts, popcorn, slushies, soda, and ice cream, you have to get something for the kiddos, right?

The Story Behind the Barn

Rowley’s Red Barn isn’t just a store, it’s family history. The Rowley family has been farming in the Santaquin area for generations. It began as a few orchards and eventually grew into a country-style store surrounded by thousands of orchards. Over time, the barn became not just a place to buy things, but kind of a gathering spot where Utah families stop on road trips and locals pick up their favorite apples straight from the source. Right across the street, you can see the orchards as well as the Mountainland headquarters where all the fruit comes from. On certain days and holiday seasons, there's a corn maze, and you can even bring the kids on wagon rides and hay rides into the orchards to hear the story of how the Rowley's started and grew to what it is today.

You can see the red barn right off I-15 near Santaquin. It's in a perfect spot to stop for a quick road trip treat. They take pride in saying everything here is made, grown, or baked locally. The barn itself is beautiful, especially the inside. It has high rafters, warm wood tones, giant windows, and lots of shelves filled with goodies. I mentioned before you'll feel nostalgic walking in here.

Lots of local products

The barn is open all year long. So, depending on the season, you could get summer apple slushies, fall donuts, winter pies, and spring fresh produce. There’s always something worth coming back for. Maybe that's why the red barn feels so special. It's always there for you to try something out and leave happy. And yes, Kylie loved her peanut butter :)
