(Green River) If you mention to anyone in Utah you're going to Green River, chances are you'll most likely hear, "Oh, you have to eat at Ray's Tavern." It's a small restaurant that has been in this community for decades and has the reputation of any fancy restaurant in a bigger city. The difference is Ray's doesn't try to be fancy. It knows people will keep coming back for good food, which is why people keep coming back. The staff is friendly, can give you tips about where to go in the area, and the atmosphere will make you feel like you discovered some place special that you can't wait to share with your friends. Ray's is more than a tavern or a burger joint, it's a legit place to eat good food and relax.

I pretty much get the same thing every time I visit Ray's; the bacon cheeseburger (crispy bacon, please) and french fries. It's so good. The burger is done just right and the fries are thick and tasty. Of course, there are plenty of options to choose from on the menu. It's written on a white board these days at the bar. There used to be a paper menu, but that went away during Covid. Plus, with new offerings all the time, it's easier for the staff to just write it on the board. You'll find chicken, salads, pork chops, salmon, and a bunch of steaks to choose from like New York cuts, ribeyes, porterhouses, and filet mignons. Don't forget the apple pie afterwords.

If you're looking for a tasty beverage besides soda and water, the bar offers plenty of draft beers, bottles, and cans of several different brands. You can also eat at the bar and it's fun to talk to the workers when you're sitting there. Everyone who comes in is greeted with a warn hello. There's also a TV with the latest game usually playing on it.

In the back of Ray's, you'll find a large room that's perfect for parties and big family gatherings. During the busy season, this room is packed with people because there isn't enough room in the main area. Sunday evenings are especially busy. The bathrooms are also in the back and you'll pass by a pool table if you're looking to make some money. Check out some of the pictures of rafting trips on the wall as well.

The small town of Green River has always been known as a place to launch a boat onto the Green River. There are several guides and companies you can hire to take you on a trip. It's become a tradition for many of those companies and guides to put a t-shirt on the walls of Ray's Tavern. You'll find them throughout the restaurant. Even though most of them don't operate anymore, it is fun looking at all the designs.

There is also outdoor seating at Ray's Boneyard. I don't know why it's called the boneyard, but they do allow dogs here, so maybe it has something to do with all the good boys and good girls who are on trips with their pawrents. They'll even bring out a bowl of water for your dog. It's also a good place to sit and eat when the weather outside is perfect.

There are a lot of great mom and pop restaurants in Utah, but Ray's is a place I stop for almost every time I am in or passing by Green River. It's worth it. A lot of diet cheat days have been taken at Ray's. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Please tell them Alex Cabrero from TV sent you. Maybe they'll charge you double :)
