Little San Francisco Trail

(Washington) Truth time. This isn't really a trail trail, but it's a marked trail with a trailhead and name and everything, so it counts in my book. If you're somebody trying to do a New Years resolution to finish a hundred different marked trails in a year (like I did in 2017), then any marked trail will get you closer to that goal. Is this the best trail ever? No. Is it hard? No. But it's a trail. And if you're in the area looking for a quick warmup to get ready for other trails, or your dog needs a quick walk, then it's perfect.

The Little San Francisco Trail begins (or ends, depending on which way you start) just outside of the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Washington. It's in the Coral Canyons neighborhood just off I-15. I think it's called the "Little" San Francisco Trail because it truly is little. In all, it's only 0.17 miles. If you're a fast runner, you could probably finish this trail taking only one or two breaths. I am definitely not a runner so I breathe a little bit more. Seriously, though, you could be done with this trail in less than 15 minutes. I'm guessing it's a trail for those who live in Coral Canyon or for those staying at the Holiday Inn Express.

The trail is paved the whole way. If you're starting at the hotel, it winds down into a drainage area and passes through red sand, sagebrush, cactus, and other desert life. For those staying at the hotel with dogs, it's an excellent trail to take your pup for a little walk to go potty and just do some sniffing. Timber enjoyed this trail and noticed some birds in a couple of the trees that got her attention. There are even doggie potty bags on the trail if you forgot your own.

The trail ends on a street in a Coral Canyon neighborhood. You could keep walking down the street if you wanted to walk further, or just turn around and go back. I have done this trail in the middle of the summer and it gets hot. I had to keep Timber off the sand because it was so hot.

There are little trailhead signs on both ends of the trail. It tells you the basic rules of the trail you'll find in most places like; leash your pets, no alcohol or drugs, no hunting. Some of the rules mention giving an audible warning when passing someone else and having a speed limit of 20 mph, so I'm guessing this is a trail for bicycles. There is a sign saying no motorized vehicles, so if you have an e-bike, you choose how legal you want to be.

All in all, this is definitely more of a walk than a hike. A marked trail is a marked trail, though. And since you hike trails, this counts as another hike! Get yourself a burger and fries, and maybe even a shake after tackling this trail. You earned it ;)
