(Veyo) You know that feeling when you bite into something so good, your standards silently raise? Veyo Pies did that to me. And I'm not even a pie guy.

Veyo Pies is located along Highway 18 about 25 minutes north of St. George. Don't be surprised if the people you see driving this way are only making the trip to visit Veyo Pies. It's certainly worth the drive if you're in the area.

Kylie, Aspen, and I were visiting St. George for a weekend and decided to stop here. It's a tiny bakery in a tiny town, with just enough room inside for the counter, the display case, and a handful of people hoping they didn’t get stuck with the last slice of their favorite flavor. It’s small and it's humble, but it's also very popular.

Once you're inside, you can instantly smell the baked goodness. Then comes the big decision. There are a lot of flavors to choose from. There's also a sign asking you to ask them what's available, just in case it's not written down somewhere.

Kylie got the cherry pie. I got the apple (because duh). The flaky crust is amazing on its own, but the filling?! My goodness. It's juicy without being sloppy. It's just like Grandma made. My suggestion would be to try a couple of different pies just to taste them.

They also have cinnamon rolls and other baked goods. Just make sure you show up early, because there's a chance the pie flavor you want could be gone. These pies are baked fresh, and once they're gone, they're gone for the day.

There are little tables and chairs to enjoy your treats outside. You can even find a covered pavilion for those hot summer days. However, Kylie and I decided to just eat in the car and share a little crumb here and there with Aspen, who was waiting patiently for her turn.

Veyo Pies isn’t fancy, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s one of those places where history, community, and doing things the right way matter. That's why they've been in business for 30+ years and loyal customers make it a stop whenever they're in the area. That tradition says something.

HISTORY
Veyo Pies started about 30+ years ago in the old “Veyo Merc,” where Evelyn Daniels first baked pies alongside her husband Larry. She made them to bring folks in the door. They became so popular, she needed help. Evalyn Yaw stepped in with her own recipes, and people said her pies were the best they’d tasted. The bakery changed hands several times, but every new pie whisperer learned from the legends.

In 2008, Veyo Pies won “Best pies in Utah” (yes, it’s a thing). That award was for real pies, baked with heart, not gimmicks. Today, when you walk up, you’ll see the same love baked into every pie they sell.

Enjoy this special place off the beaten path. Lots of people do and the outside of the store has become one of the Instragrammable places you can find online. Weekends are busier, of course, but it's fun to see others enjoying the simple pleasure of a piece of pie.

Hours: Monday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Closed sometimes after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day.
Menu Notes: Not everything is made every day. Flavors rotate and availability can change. Call ahead if you have a specific craving.
Special Diets: They do have options for gluten-free and sugar-free for many fruit pies. Check for details.
